Home

I close my eyes and think of sunlight
Of streets so familiar
Still fresh in my mind
Alive with cars humming at intersections,
Light shining on rain washed pavement
The hills that paint my window
Sweet angles of familiarity, corners of walls, dog covered carpets

Closing my eyes
the wind reminds me of wild fall days
the refrigerator sounds like high school sleepovers in the living room
Piano notes, footsteps
The sounds of closeness
Distance

Eyes closed
Almost
But not quite
Not really
Better not to

All the details that give life its richness
A dirty car and cracked driveway
Windows gaping at hills perched to swallow the glass itself
The rich red of kitchen cabinets, the blue of the couch, the white of the walls

Closing my eyes, no, even with open eyes
Images crowd thickly across my vision
Shoving to be seen
The bright colors, sunlight, the wild beauty of my memories
Begging for me to remember
